in this lesson we were shown how to do white balance, and changing the white balance buy using different couloirs of hells and paper to create different effect , for example if we used a orange/red paper then it would go to a blue and cold effect. and if we used a blue jell/paper it would go to a lighter more warm colour. this is used for if your lighting changes, and you need to balance the colours, the can be also used for creating different effects in photos and videos, for example if you want to create a night effect you could white balance it to a red colure to make a blue/cold effect and viceverser to create a warm effect with a blue jell

Jermy Kyle
Set/location of the show
Colour palette and tone used within the show.
The colorers of the set are Blue, and silver and a light wood colour. These all look very well together and are very appealing to the eyes. The tone of the set is very simple colours. these are to make the audience not to focus
Hair and make up.
the presenter jerry kyle has make up on that is very subtle, the people that are combining on to the show od not apart form there own that they have put on, Jeremy Kyle has his car pushed to the side, where as the people that come on to the show do it them selfs.
jerry kyle wears a suit, this is to make him look smart and professional. the guests coming on to the show wear there own clothes.
Presenters performance
Jerry kyle comes across as someone who wants to help, but also gets annoyed that people make up lies up to get them out of the trouble that they are in.
Shot types
The shots are mostly still and are of jerry Kyle and of the people that are on the show.
Positioning
Movement
There is little movement since there people on the show have seats to sit in, however when they get angry they start to move around more around the stage and get up from there seats .
Framing
In jerry kyle, they try to have the group of people that are on stage in one shot, they do this by having a wide angle to have every one in the shot.
The editing/shots change when a new speaker talks, when a big group of people come on it mainly is a shot that involves every one that is on the show and flickers to Jeremy when he speaks.
Pace
the pace of Jermy Kyle, it is very fast paces when people are angry , this tends to be near the end of the show, at the beginning it is slow pace since it is just jerrmy and the guest and jerry is just interviewing them.
Transitions
Transition, there are not a lot of transitions, only when it goes on to a break
Shot duration
The shots last for about 5-10 second but it depends on who is speaking and how long they are speaking for.

Audience
What is an audience
-an audience is people that consume media text.
Why audiences are important, audiences are important because without an audience there would be
-No media, and if there was no audience's there would be no money. With no audience, there would be no category of media text since everyone prefers different genres and with no audience, there would be no one to review the media text. audiences have become fragmented in
The impact of new technology on the audience
- Audiences have become fragmented into two smaller groups due to a variety of media outlets, like on demand, and being able to download and re-watch tv and films online.
Types of an audience.
-There are two main types of audience, these consist of mass and niche. Mass is a big group of people that broadcast to a large audience. a niche audience is a smaller selective group with a unique interest.
The two main systems for categorizing audiences?
- One of the ways that we categorize audience is by a psychographics this is by the catorising audience of different personality types, there are about 8 different categories that we use.
The other method is called demographics, this is where the audience is defined by different characteristics, like age, gender, nation/region and finally social economy

Foley Work Shower Scene
Today we have seen our foley work. I think that I and Matt did really well, in producing a funny comical version of the famous psycho shower scene. With our sounds, we used a soundtrack of Taylor Swift's song " I knew you were trouble, with a goat scream sound effect in it, I think that we could have matched the sound to the movie clip more, by adjusting the sound clip, since I felt it was slightly out of place.
I think our foley went fairly well, since we wanted to try to make the scene funny not scary, and have our own twist on the famous Physico scene, I felt that the running water down the drain SFX, worked really well as a shower, compared to rice which we had filmed in another clip, and I felt it sounded like the water was really heavy and was not shower like. Also the riping of fabric worked really well, to create a ripping of the shower curtain effect, to create a sense that the woman had fallen, we used a knife hitting a cabbige, this created a sound that sounded like something was falling with force. In the future, I think I will try to get three different sound effects that sound similar so that I can find the one that fits it better, which is something I found with the water and the rice.
Overall I found the editing process fairly easy, I found that having the sound waves on with the original sounds helped to match up the sounds that we recorded, some challenges we faced was that we didn't have enough sound effects so we had to repeat a lot of the sound effects, and we could have tried to add more by filming more or by making the sound clips longer so they are not repeted.
I felt that we achieved a fairly good sync with the sounds because we used the sound waves from the original clip to match up with the sounds we recorded.
We managed to volume balance the sound clips by turning the volume down and finding the correct volume. We added music which was the main part of our edited physic sceene.
We found that people thought that our clip was very funny, entertaning, and very original, people thought we could do better if we added more sound effects, and to try to make it scarier.

Week 3 caracole
This week we went to tv production, my role in this was the director,
We were put into groups of 4 and we had to think of ideas to do with the 4 coloured pen, our groups idea was to do it on the moon, since 1970 was the release date for this pen and there was also a moon landing around the years of 1970, our group was voted to be used and that is how I got the role of being the director, with this I had to make/design the set, for this we used simple objects like desks and computer screens to make a simple but effective space shuttle, we also put green and red lights behind the actors to give a flashing light effect of the buttons and lights in the space shuttle. I also had to get the camera’s in the correct angles so that there would be no ceiling lights in the top corner of the camera, and also had to look over the auto cue. When filming I had to control what was happening and give cues to the floor manager of when the actors had to do certain things like raising a pen.
our primary information was from a sheet given to us about the bic pen, and secondary information was given from the director.
I found directing hard since it required a lot of concentration, patience and being able to be doing a multiple of things at a time.
skills have learned,
how to direct
how to make a set
technical codes to use to inform people of what to do.

Music
In the film passenger the music that is used in the Scene “Spacewalk” at the beginning the tone of the song is very quiet at the beginning, this is so the audience can focus on the actors talking , it is also a soft violin sound, In the song there is only a piano and a violin, When listening to it I thought the violin signified the character, Arora, and the piano signified the character, Jim, at 0.54 seconds of the clip, the music gains in tone and becomes louder which is a crescendo effect which is to create tension, and makes the audience feel tense, and to engage in the action that is happening, and also signifies the piano to show that the character Jim in front leading Arora. At 1;40 of the clip the characters hold hand and the tone of the piano and the violin are equal, this is to show that they trust each other, at 1,51 the music goes quietly to make the “do you trust me” dialogue stand out, and to make the audience focused on the actors rather than the music, and the speech is followed by the music focusing on the piano, at 2.04 the tempo is now gained a lot this is to signify that they both trust each other and also because there is no dialogue the music is rased, to give a more emotional feel and let the audience focused on the music and the action in front.
Incidental/ambient
The mood of the scene is very happy, emotional and also romantic, this scene is at the point of which the characters Jim and Arora finally connect and "trust" each other which the word Trust stands out from the rest of the dialogue. It is also emotional for them because it is something that you can only do if you are an astronaut, and it very rare for a citizen to do, and this is quite a spectacular experience for the character Arora since it is her first time seeing something like this and being so close to space, and with someone that she cares about. This scene is also romantic since these characters have grown to love each other and this is helped to be shown by the music that I explained earlier.
Dialogue
At the beginning, there is a fair amount of dialogue but in very short sentences, witch some of these are quite funny, like the " what about my Dress"... " right" this is to add a sense of humor and to make a serious/dangerous event funny and not so serious. There is then a pause and is supported by other fun events, which help to build up a trust relationship, When the characters go out to do the spacewalk the dialogue is very soft-spoken, and the keyword "trust" stood out from the rest by having a higher tone, and this is to allow the audience to focus on the words "trust".
Sound effects.
There is very few sound effect in the clip from the passengers, however, those that are used consist of space control sound saying "tether attached" this is to make the silence not so boring since when this is played the two characters are just walking out of the spaceship. another sound effect is the steam/pressure release sound effect when the characters get out of the spacesuits, this adds a more realistic effect for the audience to make it more believable. At the begging there are a few short sound effects, like an electronic button being pushed, and the mechanics rotating the space suit around, this is all to add a sense of realism and to make the scene more believable, and it is also a lot better to have some sound effects rather than having just the dialogue. When the characters are out there is a short 2 second shot of inside Aroras helmet, this is followed by a heavy breathing sound effect, this is to add a sense of what the character Arora is scared, and is also a bit frightened, since what she is doing is very dangerous, and it also makes the audience tense, due to the heavy breathing.

What was the task?
The task was to recreate the sounds that were used in the iconic shower scene from physical. The method we were using is called foley, and this is where you create sounds for a short clip. Before we started to create the sounds we were given a sheet that was called a cut sheet, this is where we had to think of the sounds that we think we may hear on the screen, and this helped us to make the sounds that were needed, and where we could put them in the clip.
What is foley
Foley is to recreate sounds for the sound effect for fils or short clips. The equipment that we used was a microphone and adobe editing software. Some of the objects we used were taps(to create a shower sound effect) balloons to create a high pitch scream, my group found the scream difficult since we were a group of boys and none of us could reach the perfect scream, however, we found the sinks worked well to create a good shower effect.
What is found content
Found content is content that is found online and that you use in your clips, and you are only allowed to use a certain amount of "found content". some of the found content we had used was from other groups since we had missed some of the things from our list.
How did you edit and what did you use
To edit the sounds we used adobe editing software, we have not added any effect to the soft where since we found that our sounds fitted quite well and did not need to be edited. Overall I think our work went well, however I think that we could add some more sounds, to add some detail, and also to take longer sound clips instead of repeating some of the clips because it does not sound right, overall though I think it is very good with the time that my group had.

Critically Comparing my Skills, Processes and Methods
Title: Critically Comparing my Skills, Processes, and Methods
1st. Formulate your question:
Look below at what you are you being asked to evaluate.
Unit 1
U1.2.1 Critically compare a range of communication methods used to convey meaning in creative media production.
Note Critically is similar to compare but concentrate on the things that are different with two or more methods used or what sets them apart. Point out any differences which are particularly significant.
In your own words say what U1.2.1 is asking you to do.
Answer: To critically compare a range of media/media products.
2nd. Gather your information:
What have you been doing that you can evaluate
On your blog, you now have two weeks detailing classes in The Carousel and professional ways to use tools, skills, processes. If you have details of these you have done this point just add the links below.
Blog link to last week:
Answer: https://l3mediaualkianb.blogspot.co.uk
Blog link to this week:
Answer:
3rd. Apply the information
How well have you done in the sessions?
Ask yourself:
- Which skills, Processes, and Methods or tools you enjoyed the most?
Answer: I have enjoyed the mono printing method and process and enjoyed the sewing machine witch both of there are new things that I have not done before.
- Which of the things you have been shown could you demonstrate to another person?
Answer: I would be able to show another person how to do monoprints since it is a fairly simple process and is something I had a lot of confidence doing.
- Which of the things you have been shown do you need more practice with?
Answer: I think I need more practice with the sewing machine because I felt my sewing was very jerky and not straight, I could do with spending more time on the sewing machine to make my work more precise.
4th. Consider the implications
If you were asked by a professional to use some of the tools, skills, processes how well would you do?
Answer: I would feel pretty confident since I have written down all the tools that we used, and all of the tools we have used are fairly simple so it would be easy to explain how to use the tools.
5. Explore other points of view
Have you considered feedback from teachers and Peers as to how well you did in the session, if so what feedback have you had?
Answer: I have not asked for feedback from teachers.
What Feedback have you had so far that tells you are doing okay in the session?
Answer: I have only had feedback from friends who say that my work is ok .

Week 2 Caracole
- -Research that you carry out in these sessions
Skills that you have tried,
- painting on fabrics
- sewing
- being able to create a logo
- Any processes
Tuesday
we made some squares with the different coulors and then created a logo.a proces we used was emboydary where we stuck a shape of our choice to the fabric with our logo on
Wednesday
we used some thread to go around the logo we created to make it stand out.
Tuesday Methods
Tuesday Methods
- We had to paint on a piece of paper at first to find out the different couloirs, and this was to show that the colours will look different to when they are ironed on to fabrics, in this case we used 100% polyester with the heat press at 180 degreese then we had to make a design and then paint it on to the paper, we then used sewing machines to make a design on our work what i did was draw around the peice of fabirc i stuck on to my design and to draw around the letters.
- Wednesday
- We then sewed around out patterns to make the logo stand out using the embroidery hoops. i went around the big circle to add a bit of definition.
- Any tools that you used.

Technical codes Saving Private Ryan Captin Millar Death scene
Saving Private Ryan, Captin Millar's Death Scene
( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdB_7TYi__M )
In this scene they also use a zoom technical effect which goes in to a extremely close up shot, witch is also interupted with a enimy tank slowly moving falward, with shots of captin millar shoting at the tank, the effect of this is that the audence can see that the shooting the tank is hopeless and is not workign, howeve and the reppetitive techneque of cutting from the zoom of captin millar and to the shot of the tank is to add a sence of fustration with the audence becuse it is getting closer and no damage is being done, however, in the sence the fustration is relieved when the tank finaly explodes due to the american air support, and this is shown with a medium close up of captin miller and his expretion shown on his face of confution and relefe.
The scene is then cut to a establishin shot witch shows the planes causing destruction to the small french town, and also showes the german troops retreting. The scene then goes to a charecter called James ryan and this is a long shot far away to add a sence of confution and a sence of reality hitting the charecter and this shows the audence how the soldigers would have felt from going from event where they were fighting for there lifes to an event that they are safe. Saving private Ryan uses alot of expretion in the films, this is to add a sence of realisim to the audence, and alowes the audence to connect with how the soldgers were feeling and this is shown with the long shot of Private james ryan and the realisation that they are not going to be killed by German troops. The color of the scene is filmed in a very faint/faded coulor, this is to add a sence of age, and to make it so that it is not vey mordern and has a snece of being old. All of the charecters are wearing a costume of miltariy unoforms, German of US army uniforms, this is to put a date on between the years in 1939-1945, and this is to also signify that this is a war film. Near the end of this scene ther is a short scene of a US soldiger in a ball slowly rising, this is to show that the man is in destress and adds to the sence of fear and is shown by his guesture.
At the beging of this scene ther is a dveice that was ment to be used to cause the bridge to be blown appart, this is signified as the last resort and should be blown to try to stop the germans getting over the bridge and pusshing the us troops further back, this is an iconography object becuse it is a device that has to be used however the device was to far away for Captin Millar to get to and is shown with the use of facial expretion.
In saving private ryan there are sound effects like explotions and the sounds of engins of planes, this is to add to the experience for the audence. There is also dialoge that adds to the peice becuse it alowes the reader to realise the bond/brotherly hood that the soldgers had, and this is shown in the final scene where Private Reiben one of the soldigers who gave the impretion of not caring about other soldgers in his squadren, was shown to be verry caring, and cared for his Captin, Captin Millar. There is the use of music in the final scene witch adds a sence of victory and releve the music that is being played is of a trumpet being blown gently.
These are some of the techniques that are used in the film Saving Private Ryan.
Week 2 first evaluate of the carasel
Kian Blewett
Week 2 first evaluation of the Carousel
1. Evidence of me taking part: (Pictures, Diary entries, Printouts ETC) U1.1.2
Week one of the carousel, art and mono printing.
2. Write up your experience of the following...
Now list Primary and Secondary sources U2.2.1
Primary: Our primary sources were the other students work, and using that to create our own piece of work and also to use some ideas that they may have used to put into our own work. The way we did this was by walking around the studio and looking at other peoples work.
Secondary: Secondary resources were things from the teacher, and using his knowledge to adapt our work. For example, the teacher told me to focus more on detail and look closer into the object that we were drawing.
2b Discuss any skills that you have tried: U2.1.1
I have learned new skills such as being able to use different tools like mono printing, and also using some basic tools like a felt tip pen and pencil and using them in different ways to improve work and create different effects, and I also learned a skill to be able to draw in quick time.
2c Discuss any processes and methods you used (Photography wet process, Screen Printing, Photoshop layering etc): U1.1.1
Mono Printing
The process we used in mono printing, was choosing a photo that we wanted to monoprint
then we used black oil paint and rolled it out in a shape similar to an A4 size. We then stuck the bigger sheet of paper the A4 sheet with the image we wanted to monoprint, and then we placed that onto the A4 size of paper and then started to trace around the image, this then led to a monoprint of the image that we had chosen.
The method we used was to try to get a monoprint of the image that we wanted, to do this we had to use sharp pencils to get a sharp line, and then also use things like fingers to create a shaded part, for example the image that I had chosen there was a slightly shaded area on the image, the method I used to create the shadow effect was to use my finger to create a shadowing effect on the monoprint
Art
The process we used in art was selecting an image, and drawing in in timed conditions, to help prepare us to draw sketches in quick time. When we selected the image we would have to draw it and first we used a pencil, secondly a pen, thirdly a felt tip pen, then finally a felt tip pen and adding water to create a nice bleeding effect. We were then allowed to use different things like highlighters and pens to create our own designs, these are the processes we used.
What is your understanding of these?:
Processes
a process is a series of events that lead to a something that you want to create
Methods
Methods
A method is a more precise way of creating something that you want to create.
2d Discuss the tools that you used (Paint, Material, Software, etc): U2 3.1
2d Discuss the tools that you used (Paint, Material, Software, etc): U2 3.1
Tools used in Mono printing
-Black oil paint
-rollers
-pencils
Tools used in Art and design
-felt tip pens
-paper
-water
How effective were they
for both of the mono printing and art lesson both of the tools were fairly simple, and also because they were simple everyone knew how to roughly use the tools and with this, we were shown new ways to use them like using a felt time with water to create a very nice effect.also because the tools that we used were very basic every one in the lesson knew how to use the tool, which was nice because we could use what we knew and improve it with the help of the teacher, show us new ways to use the tools like a pencil to create more detail, ballpoint pent to create a sharp image, and felt tip pens to create a thin line image,
how could they be improved
Since the tools were very simple and basic there was not a lot that needed to be improved, and there was not a lot that could be improved because it did what was needed to be done.
